IBM ENHANCES RACF, EDX/SNA

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM last week announced new releases of several software products, notably the RACF Resource Access Control Facility and EDX/SNA for the Series 1 minicomputer, which is now largely confined to the role of communications controller. Release 8 of RACF adds support for VM/XA System Product, a data security monitor for VM, and the facility to store TSO/E user information in the RACF database. Pricing is graduated two ways – by processor group, and according to whether users want an MVS version, a VM version or the version combining both. The new release is out now in the US, but the VM features follow in March.EDX/SNA 2.1, for use with the new release 6 of the Event-Driven Executive for Series 1, offers improved performance in line speed and line usage. The new version can share an SDLC Data Link with up to four SNA Physical Units, or with Advanced Program-to-Program Communications. EDX version 6 enables the Series 1 to participate in an SNA peer-to-peer network as a Type 2.1 node conducting Logical Unit 6.2 sessions. Both the Series 1 products are available now in the US.
