IBM Eastern Europe Inc, which is based in what used to be the spy capital, Vienna, has confirmed previously unattributed estimates in the local press that the company turned over approximately $300m in Eastern Europe last year. The figure excludes sales in the Baltic States which are handled by IBM Nordic and Commonwealth of Independent States members Azerbaijan, Turkmenostan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan which are responsible to IBM Turkey. IBM Eastern Europe has previously said that 1992 turnover was 30% up on 1991. The $300m figure also excludes revenue from the sales of Ambra personal computers and the revenues from IBM’s OEM division based in Havanl; these are consolidated separately on a corporate level. Public relations manager Robert Mandl reported that IBM is soon to establish a Local Service Organisation (or ‘IBM Alliance Company’) in the Ukraine.
