IBM has delivered to the National Aeronautics & Space Administration an early version of the Space Station Freedom’s data management system, the primary onboard computing and communications system for the US space laboratory: designed to be used on the ground for testing, the early version is a functional equivalent of the computing system that is to fly on the Space Station and consists of diostributed 80396-based PS/2s running the AIX version of Unix, with Touch Communications Inc’s Touch OSI software and DDCInternational’s DACS-AIX/PS2 Ada compiler; the standard computers on the Space Stataion will use IBM’s proprietary Micro Channel data bus.
