In a series of announcements yesterday, IBM unveiled new models for its Aptiva E home PC series, a new version of its ThinkPad notebook and a clutch of software titles designed exclusively for home PC users. With prices ranging from $800 to $2,000, the new desktops sport 56Kb modems, optional Ethernet cards, ETI Rage Pro Turbo graphics, up to 4Mb video memory and CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. IBM’s new ThinkPad, the 385Xn is its first notebook to come pre- loaded with Windows 98. It also includes a high-capacity hard drive, floppy drive and CD-ROM in the same unit. Priced at $2,000, the ThinkPad uses on an Intel 233MHz Pentium processor with MMX and a 12.1 inch TFT display. On top of these announcements IBM also introduced three new Crayola creativity software titles designed for young children along with ViaVoice 98 Home Edition, a continuous speech recognition product designed to enable users to create letters, reports or email at home.
