Hit by slack sales of its flagship 3390 disk drive and 3990 controllers, IBM yesterday cut prices in the US – but the reductions are very disappointing, typically 5%. The 3990-001 with no cache falls 5% to $44,870; the 002 with no cache is off 5% at $79,050 and on the G03 with cache, cuts go from 5% on the smallest to 1.3% on the 256Mb cache version. Model conversion prices are similarly cut. The reductions on the 3390 disks are similarly in the order fof 5% with the A14 off 5% at $108,300; the B28 is off 5.4% to $195,900. Model conversion prices are similarly cut by about 5%.
