In the US, IBM Corp agreed to buy an equity stake in geographic information systems specialist Geographic Systems Corp of Green Bay, Wisconsin, by buying new voting convertible preference shares. IBM will work with Geographic to enhance existing IBM-based geographic systems and to develop new ones. Other terms were not disclosed. The company was formed to acquire substantially all assets of WPS Development Inc and of Integrated Information Systems Inc, San Diego, and IBM’s principal partner is Wisconsin Public Service Corp. Geographic Systems Corp provides computer-based mapping systems for use by municipalities and utilities and others that need to know where cables, pipelines and so forth are buried.In the UK, the Ordnance Survey announced that its maps were all now on computer, and is offering the facility to create the map of your choice; the system can put the client’s home or office at the map’s centre.
