IBM COMMITS TO CUT-DOWN MVS FOR 9370

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM’s strategy for making VM the operating system of choice for the 9370 has apparently run up against opposition from major users, who reckon that if DEC can offer VMS right across its product line, IBM should do the same with MVS. Users reportedly complain that adapting MVS applications to run under VM on the 9370 is too much of a chore, and IBM has apparently bowed to pressure for a stripped-down version of MVS that will run on the 9370. According to Computer Systems News, IBM has now told analysts that a Distributed MVS for the 9370 will be ready before the end of the decade.
