IBM Corp has been giving details of its part in Hewlett-Packard’s Camouflage initiative, a programme to enable more efficient control of printers across a network (CI No 2,642). IBM will integrate HP JetAdmin into OS/2 LAN Server and OS/2 Warp. IBM says HP JetAdmin for IBM OS/2 LAN Server enables administrators to install, configure and troubleshoot network printers remotely, from their desks. HP JetAdmin for LAN Server is said to have the same look and feel as OS/2 and LAN Server, and is installed and accessed via the OS/2 print object. For end users, JetAdmin provides information on the status of remote printers, print-job status and tells them when printing has finished. HP JetAdmin for OS/2 LAN Server is expected to ship in early summer. Initially, it will be available free of charge from IBM and Hewlett-Packard, downloadable from the companies’ bulletin boards and also over CompuServe services.
