IBM, CELLNET, FINANSA TEAM TO OFFER MOBILE ELECTRONIC MAIL IN UK

By CBR Staff Writer

London-based Finansa Ltd has joined forces with Cellnet Mobile Communications Ltd and IBM Corp’s Information Network to incorporate Finansa’s Remote WinMail for the IBM Mail Exchange on the Cellnet network, providing an electronic mail service for mobile telephone customers. Mobile and remote users can communicate information to each other using the Cellnet network to connect them to the public data network, in this case the IBM network, which converts the standard mobile protocol into X.400. The IBM Mail Exchange provides the message distribution and is also connected to other electronic mail services, so it enables users to attach their own office systems and can contact people in other organisations from their own workstation using standard internal office systems. When using the Cellnet cellular network to connect to the Mail Exchange users can take advantage of a special six-second unit usage charge.
