IBM is expanding its interests in optoelectronics by taking a 25% stake in PCO Inc, a Corning Glass Works subsidiary in Chatsworth, California. Terms were not disclosed. Optoelectronic devices convert light to electronic signals and vice versa and make high volume data transmission possible on fibre optic cable, as well as marking a step towards optical computers.
