IBM Corp has added Los Angeles-based Digitalk Inc’s Parts application development technologies to the Smalltalk/V family of object-oriented programming environments that it markets: the Digitalk Parts product line includes a Parts Assembly and Re-use Tool Set technology that enables very rapid application construction from prefabricated software components, and is claimed to be the first technology that makes assembly and re-use of software components a distinct and easier process than creating components; the specific products included in this new agreement include Smalltalk/V for OS/2 2.0, Smalltalk/V for Windows, Smalltalk/V for MS-DOS, Smalltalk/V Relational Database Interface for OS/2, and the new Digitalk Parts line for OS/2; Digitalk will not be saying any more about Parts until it becomes generally available next quarter.
