IBM BOWS IN PATENT SPAT

The settlement terms are shrouded in secrecy, but IBM appears to have been bested in a patent dispute with Berkeley LP, Rockville, Maryland, which sued it for $100m claiming that the IBM Personal Computer, when used in word processing, violated its 1972 patent on a word processor technique. IBM will acquire the patent, and presumably pay a substantial sum to Berkeley.
