IBM Corp and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey Inc have formed an alliance comprising IBM, its Integrated Systems Solution Corp, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey and Policy Management Systems Solutions Corp: the consortium plans to provide health care information systems across the US and they will supply a range of technologies and services enabling hospitals and doctors to exchange information electronically by using document imaging, electronic claims submissions, and the integration of separate databases; services to be provided include advanced managed health care systems; installation of image processing workstations, high-speed scanners and optical storage jukeboxes; a system for on-line access to enrolment data; on-line viewing of documents previously available only on microfilm; software and networking capabilities to capture electronically over 3m claims per year; and electronic mail and calendaring facilities for information-sharing.
