IBM Corp’s autumn blitz is expected to include for the first time three and four processor configurations of its air-cooled successors to the 4381 – IBM’s new numbering is so confusing that we can’t remember them without looking them up, but the current models are the ES/9121 190, 210, 260, 320, 440 and 480 a move that will almost certainly accelerate a trend of trading down by users of low-end models of the 3090: the company is also expected to add one, two and three processor models of the top-end ES/9021 Summit machine, which currently consists of the 820, 860 and 900; and to increase the maximum capacity of the 3390 disk drive 50% to 33Gb.
