IBM ANNOUNCES SPEECH MARKUP LANGUAGE ALPHA

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM is delivering a Speech Markup Language (SpeechML) through its AlphaWorks site, a resource for developers. Based on XML, SpeechML apparently provides an open framework for adding interactive speech capability to web applications. A web site developer can use XML tags to add a conversational interface to an application. IBM says it intends to work with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3) to develop an open standard for speech applications that can access content on the web.
