IBM Corp’s kitchen sink announcement included support of its new 4Gb 3.5 disk drive on the RS/6000: the drive, which spins at 7,200 rpm and stores up to 565Mb per platter, is in the 7137 Disk Array Subsystem, a RAID 5 device; IBM also added the 7332 4mm DDS-2 Tape Autoloader Model 005; three new models of the IBM 7204 External Disk Drive, Models 112 – 1.1Gb, 317 – 2.2Gb, and 325 – 4.5Gb; the 7203 2.2Gb External Portable Disk Drive Module; and the capability to instal high-capacity disk drives in the 7134 High Density SCSI Disk Subsystem; prices on the IBM 7135 RAIDiant Array 110 when it is ordered with 15 or 30 2Gb disk drives have been reduced – with 15 2Gb disks, it’s $69,250 and with 30 2Gb disks, it’s $122,900.
