Within three months of bidding each other farewell, IBM and the Tata Group of India have decided to tie the knot again, but this time the focus will be on the software business. IBM and the Tata Group dissolved their 50:50 joint venture, Tata IBM Ltd in June (CI No 3,675). Now the two companies have announced an alliance to market integrated voice recognition systems (IVRS) developed by the information technology division of Tata, which has been hived off into separate company, Speech & Software Technologies (India). IBM may also pick up a sizable (to the tune of 50%) stake in the new company.
