IBM and Novell Inc duly announced their snub to Microsoft Corp, whose LAN Manager is offered by IBM as LAN Server, saying that IBM will market, service and support Novell’s current and future NetWare 2.X/3.X products and that Novell intends to provide an enhanced version of NetWare for OS/2, and to to provide an enhanced version of NetWare for the RS/6000 Unix box; once NetWare is implemented under OS/2 it will be integrated with the IBM OS/2 Communications Manager and Database Manager to give NetWare OS/2 users access to Systems Application Architecture services; IBM also announced the availability of OS/2 LAN Server 1.3 more than one month ahead of schedule but there was no mention of the version of Portable NetWare for the AS/400.
