IBM Corp and NCR Corp are both expected to be quick off the mark with systems built around Intel Corp’s 50MHz 80486 part in the third quarter, the chip-maker is expected to unveil the part at the PC Expo show in the US later this month. Indeed NCR Corp was showing off systems based around the 50MHz part at the Comdex bash a couple of weeks ago. The System 3000 model 3447 has one 80486, the model 3450 comes with up to four. Both come with up to 128Mb RAM and 7Gb disk, prices go from $14,500 and $25,000 respectively. According to US reports, new IBM machines will be the PS/2 desktop 90 XP 486 50 and tower 95 XP 486 50. With 8Mb RAM and 320Mb disk, they’ll come in at around $20,000.
