IBM AND EMC TO SQUARE UP OVER DISK PERFORMANCE

By CBR Staff Writer

Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC Corp is deeply irked at benchmark results reported in IBM Corp’s AS/400 Newsletter purporting to show that IBM’s 9337 disk array performed equally with or better than EMC’s Harmonix array, and has written to John Akers demanding an open trial of strength of the two systems: EMC alleges that the configurations were not comparable because the 9337 was benchmarked with the I/O Cache/400 PRPQ whereas the cache was not used with the Harmonix, and that four charts were mislabelled; EMC also complains that IBM has refused to deliver the IBM I/O Cache PRPQ for its Benchmark Laboratory in Hopkinton after having twice agreed to do so; it wants trials in an independent lab.
