IBM AIMING TO NIP ANY RESENTMENT IN THE BUD

Morale is so low at so many IBM Corp plants these days that when the company laid off about 80 of the 160 people engaged in assembling low-end printers and other equipment for banking terminals in Endicott, New York last Thursday, it gave the rest of the staff Friday off so they could fester at home rather than stir up trouble at work, and, it hoped, start fresh on Monday with the edge taken off their anger, reports an insider.
