IBM Corp has renewed and extended its broad-brush alliance with Southborough, Massachusetts-based Chipcom Corp, which was signed in September 1992. Under the extension, Chipcom will become IBM’s primary source for high-end Ethernet and Token Ring Stackable Hubs. IBM has signed OEM agreements to market Chipcom’s new ONsemble StackSystem family of Ethernet and Token Ring Hubs under its own name and Chipcom will also become a significant source for IBM of high-end Ethernet switching via its Galactica Network Switching Hub which IBM will also buy OEM. In return, Chipcom will take IBM Token Ring line, notably the 8230 family of Token Ring Stackable Hubs and the 8272 Token Ring Switch as OEM products.
