In a bizarre move, IBM Corp has summonsed two former executives, Kap Cassani and Paul Rizzo, out of retirement to act as counsellors and advisors to chief executive John Akers from next month. Rizzo will help out on the US operations and Cassani on Europe. A key part of their brief will be to help the newly-created companies within IBM to work as autonomous businesses. Rizzo has already been giving his input on IBM’s multimedia strategy. Observers say that Akers has gone too far in easing out potential rivals for his job, so that he has ended up the only one responsible.
