IBM Corp wants to make it easier for users of its transaction processing monitors to write applications for Windows-based clients, and has introduced a new TXSeries Application Development Kit for its TXSeries 4.2, the combination of Transarc Corp’s Encina product line with its own CICS transaction processing software (CI No 3,351). The kit adds support for Microsoft Corp’s Component Object Model to improve integration with Windows-based clients. The product already includes support for Enterprise Java Beans and the Object Management Group’s Corba Common Object Request Broker Architecture. Along with TXSeries itself (CI No 3,500) TXSeries ADK will be integrated into the Enterprise Edition of IBM’s WebSphere application server, which also includes Component Broker, supporting the COM programming model. TXSeries now offers integration between its programming interfaces and Microsoft Developers Studio, along with other development environments, tools and languages that control COM objects, including Visual Basic, Powerbuilder, Visual J++ and the LotusScript development language. TXSeries also works with IBM’s own VisualAge tools. It’s out now.
