IBM Corp is beginning to get the message that having a fairly hot line of notebook computers is of itself not enough for sustained success – you have to keep adding to the line to keep it fresh and up to speed. On Friday, the company introduced a new line of ThinkPads with about the biggest screen on any notebook, and the ability to show Hollywood quality movies, video clips and presentations – a claim that makes huge assumptions about the capability of the active matrix 12.1 flat panel. The machine comes in two models, the 760C and 760CD, at from $5,350 to $7,500; they come with 90MHz or 120MHz Pentium. The 760 Series also is equipped with a tilt-up typing surface that assumes a five degree angle when opened. A compartment under the keyboard can hold interchangeable components such as a second Lithium-ion battery, or a second hard drive. The 760CD has a CD-ROM drive; they weigh 6.1 lbs to 7.4 lbs. A Taiwan-assembled ThinkPad 365 is set for month-end.
