By CBR Staff Writer

IBM yesterday made good on its October 1988 promise to provide the ability to access and manage distributed relational data across interconnected Systems Application Architecture systems with announcement of two new concepts, remote unit of work and distributed unit of work, and introduced extensions to SAA Common Communications Support that provide the architectural basis for remote unit of work access to data distributed across a business. The new communications protocols provide an Distributed Data Management Architecture for distributed relational data; an extension to Common Programming Interface provides a new level of Procedures Language capability. Native programming language support for stream input and output means that files and other sources or destinations can be processed as characters or lines.
