Today’s the day that IBM Corp adds three low-cost server models of the AS/400, Reuter reports from New York (we’re under embargo on this one, so we can only tell you what Reuter has published): analysts said the additions to the AS/400 line will be about six times more powerful than current models but will range in price from $15,000 to $20,000 depending on the configuration; Sam Albert, the Scarsdale, New York-based consultant who used to be regarded as the external voice of IBM until the old IBM collapsed and it was impossible to put a positive spin on a lot of the news, says IBM may see an additional 50,000 to 60,000 new users of the AS/400 this year, and analysts reckon that the line is now more profitable than the mainframes.
