IANA-NSI PROPOSAL REVEALED TODAY

By CBR Staff Writer

We hear the results of the negotiations between the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and Network Solutions Inc (NSI) are to be released overnight, probably on the IANA web site (iana.org). The two began discussions around the end of August after finding some common ground between their two proposals to form the non-profit entity to run the domain name system (DNS). That news led to the cancellation of the final; public meeting of the International Forum on the White Paper (IFWP). There is a replacement meeting this weekend in Boston (September 19-20) but attendance looks like being pretty thin (09/14/98). The deadline for any submission to the government is the end of the month.
