Edward Thomas, the first US president of Hyundai Electronics America Inc, San Jose has blown through the company like a whirlwind, cutting prices on the entire Huyundai personal computer line by as much as 40% so that an entry-level 20MHz 80386SX box with cache memory, VGA monochrome monitor and a floppy to go for $900; sounds too expensive after Compaq Computer Corp’s announcement; added direct telemarketing sales and support; started manufacturing, assembly and test in Silicon Valley; and formed a new management team of US executives down in Texas hired from CompuAdd Corp, IBM Corp, Texas Instruments Inc and Philips Electronics NV.
