HYUNDAI ANNOUNCES FURTHER REDUCTION IN DRAM CHIP SIZES

By CBR Staff Writer

Hyundai has announced that it has developed a 72Mb direct Rambus dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip using a 0.22 micron process that reduces chip size by 20% according to the Korean Times. The chip uses the micro ball grid array (MBGA) packaging technology developed by Samsung (CI No 3,449) and should have applications in the mobile phone, PDA and notebook markets – where chip size is crucial. There was no indication of when chips utilizing the new process would be ready to ship.
