The latest release contains a complete set of rigorous reactor models and is now capable of significantly enhancing planning and scheduling, while examining aspects of the supply chain for profitability opportunities.

This addition broadens applications using the current comprehensive list of industry-proven refinery properties and a complete assay synthesis environment to fully characterize crude oil fluid. Since the initial release of HYSYS.Refinery, major users are measuring the benefits of this tool and are making profitable changes within their operations.

Mark Zeto, Manager E&AS Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, stated: We have found by using HYSYS.Refinery we can get a more realistic representation of the quality of the streams yielded from the crude and vac units. This improved information will allow us to more accurately quantify the value and effect of processing different crude oils.

OMV AG has deployed HYSYS.Refinery for six months and has seen how it can be applied to achieve improvements in our Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU), added Uwe Nagel, Senior Technology Engineer OMV Deutschland GmbH. We will present the results of these achievements in June at the European Refiners Technology Conference (ERTC) in Paris.

HYSYS.Refinery Version 1.1 enables the user to:

Simulate in detail the entire manufacturing process from the crude oil tank farm through to final product blending, with an outcome of consistent mass, volume and energy balances combined with a full array of refinery properties

Evaluate crude supply opportunities with reliable prediction of actual refinery yields and qualities

Determine the potential for improving the yields of higher value products and processing lower grades of crude with steady and predictable plant operations

Directly reconfigure or extend the scope of a refinery simulation

Re-use individual unit models in on-line mode for performance monitoring or dynamic modeling

Reduce costs with a consistent set of tools and technology for all modeling and simulation requirements

Improve crude selection by using unmatched refinery properties prediction technology
