Hyperion Solutions Corp, the analytical applications provider, has formed a partnership with Acta Technology Inc, the data extraction, transformation and loading tool (ETL) vendor to target Acta’s SAP customer base. Hyperion already has similar relationships with ETL players like Genio and Hummingbird, but this is a strategic one according to Nicholas Bryant, Hyperion’s director of strategic alliances.

Sunnyvale, California Hyperion gets access to Acta’s extraction tools for SAP and PeopleSoft enterprise resource planning applications, an addition the two reckon saves over half the time taken to extract the data. It also gets an entry to SAP’s estimated user base of 20,000 worldwide. Palo Alto, California-based Acta gets the Essbase application server as a front end packaging for its tools.

The systems integration and databasing know-how will be provided by the third partner, ECsoft, although Hyperion is looking to major consultancies like Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers for worldwide implementations. Hyperion will look to make more of Acta’s tools as the vendor broadens its offering; Peoplesoft is its latest addition, and the company promises to plumb the Oracle Financials user base next.
