Hutchison Telecommunications UK Ltd has affirmed its belief in the concept of Telepoint, with its tiny, low-cost one-way pocket telephones as one by one all the other players in the UK dropped out, and yesterday it gave a hint of the kind of value-added business it conceives for the technology. According to the Evening Standard, it is negotiating with BAA Plc, the former British Airports Authority to install base stations all over its various premises and issue the pocket telephones to many of its 70,000 staff, enabling them to remain in touch with each other without the present expensive and weighty walkie-talkie network now used. Pagers are likely to be included in the phones.
