Neither network is launched yet, but Hutchison Microtel Ltd has signed with E Plus Mobilfunk GmbH for a roaming agreement that will enable subscribers to either Personal Communications Network to use their phones in both the UK and Germany, with billing handled by the subscriber’s home operator: E Plus Mobilfunk is owned by a consortium including Thyssen AG, Veba AG, BellSouth Corp and Vodafone Group Plc; the agreement is seen as something of a coup for Hutchison over arch-rival Mercury Communications Ltd, whose One-2-One service is already operational and making hay – in the Greater London area.
