HUTCHISON LAUNCHES HONG KONG FIXED NETWORK SERVICE

Hutchison Telecommunications (HK) Ltd has launched a fixed network service in Hong Kong and says it will invest $840m in its development within the next five years. Entering the market in competition with Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd, the Hutchison Whampoa Ltd unit’s Network Eight On-Net Service will have a fiber optic backbone laid in the tunnels of Hong Kong’s subway system and will feature the latest technology and a range of value- added services. The company is targeting 20,000 subscriber lines in 1997.
