Hutchinson Clinic is a multi-specialty group practice with its main campus in Hutchinson and satellite clinics serving small towns across a 100-mile swath of rural Central Kansas. When the clinic decided recently to replace its outdated practice management system, it used the opportunity to automate the clinical side of the practice as well.

TouchWorks will enable Hutchinson’s physicians to instantly access patient information when and where they need it. The web-based system speeds and automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and viewing tests, and documenting care.

In addition, TouchWorks combines sophisticated scheduling and financial management tools in a single package and incorporates advanced functionality such as rule-based appointment scheduling, multi-resource and recurring appointment features, referral and eligibility indicators, and appointment and claims management.

We wanted a combined system that would make us more efficient across the business, that was intuitive and powerful enough to easily handle our volume of patients, and Allscripts was the clear choice, said Hutchinson Clinic president Dr James Ruhlmann. What also sold us was the company’s track record on implementations, where they have a stellar reputation for making sure that clients get up on the system without a drop-off in production.

Hutchinson Clinic plans to offer the Allscripts solution to smaller physician groups in Central Kansas via a medical service organization model. Under this scheme, the clinic would host the solution and offer technical support to the smaller groups in return for a monthly or annual fee.
