The company had been expected to launch services in late summer, after acquiring a 3G license in spring 2000 for GBP4.4 billion. However, technical problems are likely to delay the launch until November.

Much of the foundations for the service have been laid. Hutchinson 3G has equipment deals with both NEC and Nokia, and its network will cover all the UK’s major towns and cities. However, there is concern over the availability dual-band 3G handsets that are capable of working in non-3G areas.
