The UK police force’s increasing reliance on digital images and the need to keep data for a long periods had taken its toll on its legacy storage systems. To cope with this rising demand, the police force bought a combination of Dell/EMC storage area networks, Dell ultra small format desktops, and Dell Latitude notebooks.

Roy Macdona, computer development manager at the police force, said that since the move, Humberside’s 4,000 officers and staff now have more accurate, timelym and secure data and improved back-up. We are able to store data securely and control access to it. Back-ups and data recovery from failures are faster, he said.

Running costs have also been reduced because the technology is far less space and power hungry.
