The Hughes Network Systems Inc unit of General Motors Corp’s GM Hughes Electronics Inc, has been awarded the contract to supply a high-capacity wireless digital telephone system to the Indonesian capital of Jakarta: in the first phase, 50,000 are to be put on by early next year in a contract worth $80m, and the system is to grow to handle 250,000 initially, with the possibility of that doubling to 500,000, in which case the contract could hit $500m.
