HUGHES LAN SYSTEMS CLAIMS FIRST

By CBR Staff Writer

General Motors Corp’s Hughes LAN Systems in Mountain View claims its Linc/Term Hub Series of integrated terminal server modules are the first available multi-protocol servers offering full-function asynchronous terminal communications directly in the chassis of third-party smart wiring hubs: the Linc/Term 3208 is compatible with and occupies one slot in the chassis of SynOptics’ LattisNet System 3000; TSRV-8 and 5208 function similarly with the Cabletron Multi Media Access Center and Chipcom’s ONline concentrators, respectively; multiple modules are supported in a single hub, subject only to the available slots in the chassis and each supports up to eight RS-232 devices; SNMP is a standard and they’re $1,400 apiece, from August.
