Hughes Aircraft Co’s Mountain View, California-based Hughes LAN Systems has announced availability of Version 4.0 of its SNMP-based network manager, Monet. Hughes says the manager is based on open systems and claims it is the first network management product to offer complete integration of third-party SNMP Management Information Base extensions into a Structured Query Language relational database. According to Keith McCloghrie, Hughes’ director of network architecture, the seamless integration of management information base extensions is achieved with Monet’s MIB Master, a built-in management information base parser. Using Hughes’ parser technology, the MIB Master enables users to install multi-vendor management information bases directly into the relational database at run time, and they can be accessed by all Hughes’ management applications. With Monet, says McCloghrie, users are able to add third-party SNMP devices to their network and fully manage them within one hour.
