Huawei Technologies has completed its first phase commercial fiber-to-the-building network for the pilot project of German telecom operator HanseNet in Hamburg.

According to Huawei, HanseNet launched the fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) project in June 2008. In the following November HanseNet started with 50 buildings. The second phase kicked off recently and is expected to add fiber optics to another 500 buildings.

The FTTB network deploys Huawei’s MDU (multi-dwelling unit) products MA5651G/MA5652G, offering consumers high-speed broadband access based on latest VDSL2 technology by utilizing chipset from German supplier.

Huawei claims that with its FTTB solution, HanseNet’s high-speed network can support data rate up to 100Mbps per user and an upload of up to 10Mbps per user and an upload of up to 10Mbps per user.
