Huawei unveils Small Data Packet Storm application

The new application double the number of simultaneously connected subscribers on one network using smartphones

By CBR Staff Writer

Information and communications technology (ICT) applications provider Huawei as launched an UMTS Small Data Packet Storm application.

The new application is designed to meet the challenges arising from smartphones and mobile broadband (MBB) applications usage.

Huawei said the UMTS Small Data Packet Storm application enables double the number of simultaneously connected subscribers on one network using smartphones.

Huawei has developed the application after finding that the rapid growth of smartphones and MBB applications has strained UMTS networks.

While analysing the total amount of data traffic used on a network over a certain period of time, Huawei found that 80% of usage lasts less than 10 seconds and 60% require less than 1kbit.

Small data packet storm is a scenario where smartphone penetration is high, with many simultaneously connected users leading to decrease in air interface efficiency and decreases in capacity, user experience and total connected number of users.

The company has also developed applications to combat "small data packet storms", improving user experience for subscribers using smartphones.
