Chinese company Huawei has recorded a 62% increase in its smartphone shipments compared to the first half of 2013.

Huawei shipped 34.27 million units of its smartphones globally in 1H 2014, out of which 21 million smartphones were shipped in the second quarter alone, accounting for 85% year-on-year growth.

The company credits this to increased brand awareness of its new premium products like Ascend P7 and Huawei Mate 2 4G.

Huawei also managed to grab major market share in Asia and Latin America, and has seen significant shipment growth in Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.

On its home turf, Huawei is competing with ZTE, Lenovo and Apple. The iPhone maker is still dominating the premium phone market in China, which Huawei is trying to break into with its premium sets.

In the first half of 2014 Huawei has managed to sell more than 20 million devices in China.

Huawei has partnerships with some of the major carriers in China, which is working to its advantage against some of its rivals, such as Samsung and Apple.

The company also plans to add more mid to high range 4G LTE-enabled smart devices and wearables to its consumers.
