Huawei launches Galaxy S6 rival, Mate 8

News: The company has added its own software and UI over Android Marshmallow.

By CBR Staff Writer

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has released its flagship Mate 8 with 6-inch 1080p display, which is expected to give tough competition to the Nexus 6P and Galaxy S6.

The phone is powered by octa-coreKirin 950 chipset which is a 16nm based chip with four 2.3 GHz cores and four 1.8 GHz cores, and is expected to provide high performance and efficiency.

Three variants of the phone will be available which includes a 32 GB low end device with 3GB of RAM, a slightly higher 64 GB/4GB option, and the top of the line model featuring 128 GB/4GB option.

The phone features a 16-megapixel camera powered by Huawei’s image signal processor and the phone is powered by 4000 mAh battery.

Mate 8 will run on Android’s latest Marshmallow OS, but the company has added its own software and UI layer called EmotionUI.

The company released the Mate 7 phablet last year when the device outlived the expectation of the company by selling over five million units worldwide.

Mate 8 is expected to be released soon in China followed by the US when it will be launched during the CES in January.
