Huawei has announced the demonstration of Ethernet-over-OTN interoperability tests with Deutsche Telekom (DT) and KDDI R&D Laboratories (KDDI Labs).

The tests, conducted by the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF), showed the multi-vendor interoperability of Ethernet services in a multi-carrier environment over OTN transport.

The demonstration, which focused on both data and control plane technology, involved GE/10GE EPL/EVPL service interoperability, ODUk/ODUflex mapping and encapsulation, ODUk/ODUflex overhead interoperability, ODUk SNCP cross-domain protection, and OTUk ENNI interoperability

With Huawei’s terabit OSN product, the DT and KDDI Labs test networks were able to provide OTN and data applications for future transport networks.

Huawei stated the integration of GMPLS/ASON control plane features into OTN leads to efficient bandwidth, simplified O&M, better service provisioning and enhanced network reliability.

The OTN platform will support GMPLS/ASON control plane features at both the optical and electrical layers.

Huawei has deployed over 70 commercial OTN GMPLS/ASON networks worldwide.
