Huawei adds ANR feature to LTE networks

It allows for the automatic management and optimisation of all neighbour relations without manual intervention

By CBR Staff Writer

Global information and communications technology (ICT) provider Huawei has launched the Automatic Neighbor Relation (ANR) feature on LTE networks.

The company said the ANR function can automatically manage and optimise the relationship of neighbour cells, improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance and reduce the operating expenses

Huawei has launched the feature into commercial use on the LTE network in Cologne, Germany.

The company claimed the release marks the first time that an ANR feature has been successfully launched on a commercial network in the world.

The ANR feature, which has been in commercial operation for three months, allows for the automatic management and optimisation of all neighbour relations without manual intervention.

ANR is able to reach a handover success rate of 99% when network performance is stable.

Cologne’s LTE network was officially launched by Huawei for commercial use in April 2011.

According to Huawei, it began verifying ANR functions and features for use on the LTE network, including neighbour detection, automatic adding and neighbour deletion in October, 2011.

The standardised ANR feature is also one of the features of Huawei’s Single Self-Organizing Network (SON) solution.

At the upcoming 2012 Mobile World Congress, Huawei plans to display its SingleSON solution, which includes features such as the multi-mode ANR.
