HSBC has signed a multi-million pound deal with Vodafone to extend its mobile communications contract for two more years.

HSBC telecommunications and client technologies global head Gabriel Pepe said: "It is important to ensure our employees have the best tools to serve our customers and we believe that this contract extension will meet their needs."

As part of the deal, Vodafone would provide mobile communication services to HSBC’s 21,000 employees in the UK under the banking giant’s broader efficiency and effectiveness programme.

Vodafone Global Enterprise CEO Jan Geldmacher said: "World class businesses need world class mobile communications."

Recently, Vodafone launched 4G services in some parts of London.

The UK mobile operator also sold its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless in the US under $130bn, which is claimed to be one of the biggest in corporate history.
