Hewlett-Packard Co’s CoCreate Software Inc, the new name for what had been its Mechanical Design Division, has released a Windows NT version of the last of its major software packages not already moved from its native HP-UX. The $7,500 NT 4.0 version of SolidDesigner 4.55, CoCreate’s modeling program for three- dimensional mechanical computer-aided design, matches the Unix version feature-for-feature, and shares the same file formats, so that files can be exchanged between the two versions. Besides running on HP’s Unix boxes, SolidDesigner is also available in a version for Silicon Graphics Inc. CoCreate, based in Fort Collins, Colorado suggests that because the files are transportable, those of its current Unix customers who are adding new design seats may want to consider the cost-effective solution of switching to NT – showing just how much things have changed at Hewlett-Packard of late.
