Hewlett-Packard (HP) CEO Leo Apotheker has reportedly warned senior executives that they should brace themselves for tough times.

Apotheker said in a leaked memo that the company is set to face "another tough quarter" in the three-month period ending in July, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The leaked email is believed to be meant to prepare the senior management for the poor performance in the quarterly results.

Apotheker has also asked the executives to cut back expenses and minimise hiring.

"We must watch every penny and minimise all hiring," wrote Apotheker.

He also said that the company would be "driving hard for revenue and profit", and that there was "absolutely no room for profitless revenue or any discretionary expenditures".
